Right ho, how does this Blog stuff work then hey?
So Im stubbornly speccing SV after 3.0.2. Basically I love the specc. I have seen numbers from BM specced Hunters that I can't reproduce, but still unsure whether this has to do with missing buffs in 5-10 men raids (which Ive only done after the last patch).
EJ's is lacking discussion about SV Hunters at this moment. This annoys me to the extent that Im contemplating starting a thread called 'SV Hunters in WotLK' in the Class Mechanics thread. At the moment work keeps me from getting started, but if no-one takes care of this before Im done working on this nasty case, Ill try to jumpstart a discussion over there ;) .
Im wrestling multiple speccs atm in SV. There are a few talents that have an influence on how to do top dps and Im not sure which will be best suited yet. For instance the talent 'Point of No Return' gives a 6% crit buff to all shots on a target affected by the AoE frost trap. Also through 'Lock and Load' that trap procs two Explosive shots that cost no mana, and trigger no CD. This is all very cool, but I fear that placing traps on a Boss while moving a minimum amount to avoid dpsloss will be tricky. Also I question whether giving up a GCD for a trap that gives a 25sec boost to all other shots, will lead to a dps increase. A possible alternative is 'Sniper Tactics' which lends a dps increase when 30yards or more from a Boss. Problem is there that it may be situational whether its possible to dps from 30 yards and you may miss Raidbuffs due to being out of range... Tricky.
Having fun puzzling though and Im wearing down the Dummies like a happy little puppy with Nivo by my side :) .
Atm Im around 1200 dps sustained over 5+ minutes. This is with a focus starved Pet because I have to miss my 11 point MM talent Go for the Throat, so after lvl 70 there is hope.
At this moment my rotation is Serpent Sting (to proc Lock and Load and trigger Noxious Stings) - Explosive Shot - Steady - Steady - Explosive - Steady - Steady - Serpent - Explosive. When L&L proccs its Explosive - Steady - Explosive - Steady etc. I have Pet abilities Rabid and Kill Command macroed to my shots as well as Rapid Fire and Trinkets. Love the fact that in the new Hunter rotation its all about the GCD and less about weaponspeed and Autoshot intervals.
Allright, my first (small) Wall of Text! Here's too many more to come! (Am I scaring y'all yet?)

Me scared? naaaah :)What
Me scared? naaaah :)What happened to the exposed weakness debuff SV hunters used to give, is it gone?Regarding that sniper tactics: raid buffs that my toons have have a range of 45 yards. Thats the pally aura and the trueshot aura of the MM hunter. I'm guessing that shooting from more then 30 yards wont be a problem.
Expose Weakness is no longer
Expose Weakness is no longer a Raidbuff, it now only applies to me and is 'just' another Agility-scaling talent besides Lightning Reflexes in that sense. SV Hunters get the Raidbuff replenishment in return for missing EW contribution to the Raid.
Range is an issue with Totems iirc (30y?) and the Druidbuff (5% crit etc - also 30y?) isnt it? Well I will find the right specc with more Raidexperience I think. It will also depend on the amount of Bosses where standing at range is valid anyway; think Atumen, Maiden, Opera, Hydross, Teron, Gurtogg, Reliquary, etc. From the top of my head, these are all Bosses where you cant stand that far away anyway.

the blog for classes is not implemented yet. Only the blog for healing is . Soz.. First i want to see if i can find a decent frum to integrate here. If yes, i will fix the blogging too.
The druid aura is also 45
The druid aura is also 45 yards (the 5% crit) many totems like mana spring totem and strength of earth are 30 yards, healing stream is 20 yards, totem of Wrath looks at enemies within 40 yards. So it depends :)It can ofcourse be an issue if a melee shaman stands on the opposite side of the boss.... There used to be a talent that increased the range but it seems to have gone.
The last patch removed the
The last patch removed the effect from Windfury Totems on Hunter attacks. Im now stuck with a 2 sec casttime SteadyShot which doenst match well with my 1,5 sec GCD. Something has to be done!
With new statsvalues at lvl 80 this will mean >400 Hasterating next to 17% quiverhaste, which is a rather enormous bit out of itemisationneeds. In an effort to bring this number down to a more realistic value Im gonna try this specc:
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=cxZ0eVoZe00i0cIhxdAhcd
(Imp AotHawk only proccs from Autoshots and has about a 50% uptime - varies on weaponspeed - for an additional 7+% attackspeed).Im noticing more and more that I want to be lvl 80, I have too few talentpoints to spend now (at lvl 80 I want more talentpoints as well ofc ;))

Stoffer, yes, more or less. He has his own Runescape account (free), but ofcourse he thinks WoW is cooler (which it is). But i dont want him to have his own account yet. Mostly because of the fact that he hardly understands english. So i created a toon for him to play with. First we created a mage (he wanted to be as cool as his dad i guess..haha). Then once he saw people walking around with pets he wanted that. So we ditched the mage and created a hunter..;-)

About Stats preference for
About Stats preference for Hunters (as far as I can tell atm):
BM:
Agi>AP=Crit=Hit=Int>ArPen
MM and SV:
Agi=Haste>AP=Hit=Crit=Int>ArPen
Agility remains king because of scaling, this is ofcourse even more true for SV Hunters. Luckily WotLK items seem to have an abundance of Agi compared to TBC itemisation.
AP and Critrating are both still marvelous for dps increase, AP now scales with raidbuffs! (10% thorugh Trueshot Aura and other talents). Crit has synergy with other talents such as Go for the Throat.
Haste is now very important for MM and SV Hunters. Our Steadycasttime is increased to 2 secs. Even with Quiverhaste this is over the GCD and thus too long. It takes 520Hasterating to get Steady shot cast time down to 1,5 secs. MM and SV Hunters should prioritise haste over evrything but Agi. If you're specced into ImpAotHawk you need somewhat less Hasterating, howmuch is not yet known. Discussion here: My post on EJ's
Hit is still necesary ofc. This is from EJ's:
EJ's smartypants wrote:
The conversion rate at level 80 is 32.78998947 hit rating to 1% to hit.
Level 83 boss mobs require 9% hit for us to not miss.
0/3 Focused Aim: 296 (295.1099)
1/3 Focused Aim: 263 (262.3199)
2/3 Focused Aim: 229 (228.5299)
3/3 Focused Aim: 197 (196.7399)
Int now converts to AP through Carefull Aim, I trust all have this Int also leads to more dps through less AotVipertime (More Int means faster manareturn through Viper and Replenishment).
ArPen is meager as far as I understand. This is because it now factors after raidbuffs and does so by an armorreduction percentage. Because the specific BossArmor stats have not yet been divined it's not possible to quantify the value of ArPen precisely atm.
Hope this turn out to be more or less correct ;)

P.S. Posted on Easy forums, but now that we have a Hunter here as well (yay Kim!) there may be some use reposting here. See what you did there by switching to the dark side Kim? You unleashed me in the most unpleasant way, youve given me an excuse to post my mad ravings again!

I thought about that, but then Id have a large number of different Blogs in a while. Isnt just one Blog with bits and pieces of usefull info preferable? Either is fine by me btw. I did think on it a bit. Making new Blogs is ofc nice because of the uneasy formatting these reply's have compared to a new blog ;) .

I promissed to write something on EJ's about SV Hunters if someone didn't beat me to it in the last month. This hasn't happened. There still was no thread to discuss the SV Specc on EJ's. This ofcourse frustrated me, so I did it: I created a topic on SV Hunters myself.

Been thinking about Pets.
Been thinking about Pets. Not being a BM Hunter makes Pets a bit more trivial, but definately not neglectable.
I was disappointed with my Pets damage in the other nights Raid. A Raptor benefits from high Crit which I cant give it. A Scorpid was best damage for all Hunters, but will be nerfed in 3.0.8 along with Cats which were second best for my specc. Now what?
Wolves are nice but have a Buff that doesnt stack with BattleShout and other Buffs. So maybe useless.
Wasps are nice as well but have a Buff that doesnt stack with FaerieFire, which we are guaranteed to have I guess.
I could also leave the whole thought of maxDPS pets and bring a Cunning Pet. These have an ability that regens 30% of my mana per Bossfight. Since I Vipered a lot last Raid, which cost damage. This may actually be worth a lot of dps, all in all beind more damage than a Ferocity Pet. Sounds like a plan or completely nuts, what do you guys/gals think?
I may try a Wind Serpent again, looks to be the best pet out of all Cunning possibilities.

Anything that moves away
Anything that moves away from MaxDPS is good :P
Seriously, I havent got a clue.
I'm not so sure that Faerie Fire is up now that Shrubs is moonkin. I suppose I should tell Ingrid to apply it when she has the time?
I decided this afternoon it
I decided this afternoon it would be nice to put up FF, since there's very little boosting our physical dps. BS is rarely up I think, only on thrash or when Jelle is around.
You can get out of Viper by
You can get out of Viper by paying attention :)
Oof, that sounds rude. I mean that if you want, there is lots to gain without having a subDPS pet.
So go for the training and have a dps pet
@Freek: Im not moving away
@Freek: Im not moving away from MaxDPS Im affraid. The theory is that by taking a less optimal Pet I may be able to boost the HunterDPS so that the sum of both is higher than what I achieve now. :)
@Hedzer: If putting up FF is bad for your DPS then its no problem for me to bring a Wasp if Im raiding. Same goes for Ingrid. The difference between a Wasp and a Raptor would only be about 40 DPS I guess. The armordebuffaspect to the Wasps special ability more than compensates for that difference.
@Kim: Luckily I didnt forget to switch out of Viper for too long last Raid, so theres not much to gain there Im affraid :)
I can improve on decreasing Viper uptime during trash by drinking in between pulls. Beyond that I can select more Int on Gear. Hows else I can decrease it further by training I dont know.
Im not going to revert to a cheaper rotation atm because I dont think that wield better DPS by avoiding Viper alltogether. If a WindSerpent turns out to do 15% DPS less then my Raptor (about 60DPS) but giving me 4000 mana once a Bosstry leading to me not having to Viper or one for half the time, then the difference in damage may favour the WindSerpent combination.

Dinged Exalted with the Argent Crusade this morning. This got me the http://www.wowhead.com/?item=44295 Polished Regimental Hauberk and the http://www.wowhead.com/?item=44297Boots of the Neverending Path :)
Tomorow Ill ding Revered with the Knights of the Ebon Blade and get myself the nice Head Enchant and the http://www.wowhead.com/?item=44249 Runeblade of Demonstrable Power
After that its finally time for the Sons of Hodir. Theres enough to keep me busy in the wee early hours still :)
Besides that Ive picked up some new Pets and dumped some old ones. Dispite things being subtly changed a few times a week on the PTR, the most promissing Pets for me after Patch 3.0.8 look to be a Raptor, Cat, Wasp, Wind Serpent and Wolf. Only the Raptor is lvl 80 at the moment, but the Wind Serpent is closing in. Ive got quite a task ahead getting them all to 80. Gallery of Pets:

http://petopia.brashendeavors.net/html/skins/skin_fireflyskinblack.html River and
http://petopia.brashendeavors.net/html/skins/skin_magehunterred.html Shifra
The fun part is being able to bring either a Battle Shout Buff (Wolf) or Minor Armor Debuff (Wasp) to the Raid if these are not otherwise available. Beyond that Cats and Raptor are neck to neck for most dps. Wind Serpents are OKish dps-wise and have an ability that will give me 30% of my mana once per Bossfight, so may help out in that way.
About my very flaky Raid Signing, in principle I should be able to Raid mondays (Ofc last monday - a day after I anounched this fact to Hedzer -a Court session lasted till 20.00h). I hope to be there more often, but life has been more stable than it is now.
I'll keep y'all posted.
P.S. After 5 Edits I wtb ... coding and Itemlinks ;)

Yay, two WWS-logs to
Yay, two WWS-logs to compare!
The 15th http://wowwebstats.com/kjzn2ylrojiua?m&s=bosses
and
the 18th http://wowwebstats.com/gatvthir32sxm?s=bosses&m
On the 15th I had my Raptor named Blaauw bringing 481 dps. On the 18th I had Zissht the Hog-loving Wind Serpent with 344 dps and Roar of Recovery http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=53517 . These number are with the tab 'All-Bosses' selected. Roar of Recovery regenrates my mana and reduced the time I need to spend in Viper (which has a damagedealing penalty).
Comparison between these logs is mostly useless of course because of difference in Bossfights and because of that the distribution of damage over different abilities used. What Im looking for however is an answer to the question whether the loss of 137 Pets dps weighs up against the reduced time spent in Aspect of the Viper (manaregen with 50% damagepenalty). I'll compare Thaddius to Anub'Rekhan and Razuvious to Faerlina because these are Bossfights of similar length and similar dps-time/manausage.
Thaddius With Wind Serpent
DPS time : 3'27''
Pet DPS 455
Manarecovery:
Replenishment 6,060 Mana
Manapotion 4,219 Mana
Thrill of the Hunt 3,937 Mana
Roar of Recovery 3,729 Mana
Aspect of the Viper 2,088 Mana
Aspect of the Viper 1,988 Mana for a total of 10 ticks in Aspect o/t Viper
Anub'Rekhan With Raptor
DPS time : 3'36''
Pet DPS 452
Manarecovery:
Aspect of the Viper 7,379 Mana
Thrill of the Hunt 5,127 Mana
Replenishment 4,709 Mana
Restore Mana 4,310 Mana
Aspect of the Viper 2,530 Mana for a total of 31 ticks in Aspect o/t Viper
I remember ending both figths with almost 0 mana. These fights the Pets did similar damage and the Wind Serpent reduced my Vipertime by about 60%.
Razuvious With Wind Serpent
DPS time : 2'57''
Pet DPS 373
Manarecovery:
Replenishment 4,643 Mana
Thrill of the Hunt 4,600 Mana
Restore Mana 4,278 Mana
Roar of Recovery 3,527 Mana
Aspect of the Viper 1,317 Mana
Aspect of the Viper 470 Mana for a total of 5 ticks in Aspect o/t Viper
Faerlina With Raptor
DPS time : 2'33''
Pet DPS 484
Manarecovery:
Aspect of the Viper 4,397 Mana
Restore Mana 4,203 Mana
Thrill of the Hunt 4,092 Mana
Replenishment 3,649 Mana
Aspect of the Viper 1,347 Mana for a total of 17 ticks in Aspect o/t Viper
I dare state that bringing a Wind Serpent in a moderately long fight of around 3 minutes will reduce my Vipertime by 2/3 at the cost of an average of 100 Pet-DPS loss.
Very rough standardisation:
On average I do ~2200 DPS on these Bosses, say 2150 with Serpent and 2250 with Raptor.
My Pet does 380 (Serpent) to 480 (Raptor) DPS for the duration of the fight.
The Bossfight lasts 3 minutes
I spent 30 secs in Aspect o/t Viper with a Raptor and 10 sec with a Wind Serpent.
Raptor Damage 86400 (480 * 180)
30 secs of Viper 33750 (0.5 * 2250 * 30)
Sum: 120150
Serpent Damage 68400
10 sec of Viper/20 secs full damage 10750 + 43000 (0.5 * 2150 * 10) + (2150 * 20)
Sum: 122150
This very rough calculation tells me that the difference between both Pets is probably very small and within the expected errorrange of this calculation thus negligable.
Conclusion: Wind Serpent or Raptor, same difference. Bring whichever you like best at the time.
This concludes this weeks lesson in futile WWS-log browsing. Brought to you by Cilithan the Mad. Thank you for your time and see you next week for more adventures in search of the Holy Grail of beating Freek on the damagemetres ;)
I may bring my Wolf or Wasp next time, that's going to be a tough calculation :)

So, I am back. Had great fun
So, I am back.
Had great fun yesterdays raid. Was especially glad I did OK at Hodir after claiming at a recent visit to Stoffer that it looked like an easy fight.
Rust was apparent for me though. My situational awareness was completely absent again on a lot of fights. Often I didn't know where my target was which caused me to run around like a headless chicken. Also I was strugling with my rotation in that it took my complete focus to get it right (eyes glued to cooldowns). In my experience that will become better with more raids under my belt, so Im not too worried. Crappy sit.awareness was especially problematic at Mimiron, I was trying to dodge stuff that later turned out to be unavoidable. And while trying to dodge the one thing I was walking into other things like rockets and bombs. I'm looking forward to the next Mimironfight because I really think I can improve there.
My pet dying at Mimiron is a problem, one that I don't have the answer for yet. Turning it to passive solved part of it, but pulling it out in time for the AoE thingy proved taxing. More practice may work. The type of Pet is going to be the Wolf for the time being. The damage it did was good, for instance compared to Keha's Wasp (which did bring the armor debuff, which is a Raid buff ofc.).
Manausage was great, Yay for Nelrac's JoWisdom, so I'll specc out of Efficiency and take up some points elsewhere. Putting more points in Survival seems like a plan. Something like this: http://www.wowhead.com/?talent#cZ0eVooZx0ci0cIhedAhsd:NAfM0z ?
Im going to have a look at possible crafted upgrades. I believe there were some this patch, a cloack amongst others IIRC.
One other thing on my assignement-list is trying to figure out the Raid-log thingy. I couldn't find the overviews I was looking for last night (want damage/dps comparisons per Bossfight and for isntance lists of abilities used) so more tinkering is in order.
