Stormcape did ok, but not good enough (by far). I came out 5th of the raid in total damage output and dps. Thanks to newly 80 Tribunus, or else i probably would have been 6th... arghh...

Lets try to see how yesterday's run compared to the one a month ago. The earlier log was no longer available, but my analysis of then gives me some data for comparison.

Overall
january: damage out: 412,611, DPS 1763
february: damage out: 589.605, DPS 3086

Frostfire bolt
january: % of damage 59%, hits 35, avg damage 3112, dots 50, crit 34%, miss 0%
february: % of damage 51%, hits 17, avg damage 3873, dots 34, crit 60%, miss 4,3%

Scorch
january: % of damage 6%, hits 12, avg damage 1351, dots -, crit 20%, miss 0%
february: % of damage 3%, hits 6, avg damage 1456, dots -, crit 30%, miss 10,0%

So, what does this show me? I guess improvement is obvious, both in total damage and in dps. Crit has increased considerably (thanks to better gear, i guess). Miss also was a lot higher (eventhough my +hit is considerably higher than in january, strange!). The lower number of hits of frostfire bolt can probably be explained by the higher crit which leads to firestreak (= instant pyroblast).

Now, comparing to Stormcape of january is an easy comparison. Lots has changed since then (better gear, more experience). But still, im far from happy with my ranking in the raid (shouldnt mages be somewhere at the top of the raid?).

So, where to look for improvement? Better gear? Yes ofcourse. Better enchants and gems? Maybe. Better gameplay? Probably. I notice I loose time by inefficient keybindings (on todo list), my addons need tweaking (on todo list). I also loose time by moving around (often late to arrive at a fight due to drinking up). I die too often, mostly because of bad timed moves (Thaddius for instance).

Yesterday's run was fun, had a great time, but the wws logs kind of depresses me...... someone chear me up?

One important comment is that i6ts hard to compare fights of different lengths. We were killing a lot faster than before which can really alter your numbers. The shorter a fight the worse it is to arrive late or lose time doing "other" stuff usually.

Personally I think you lose out a lot of damage by being a not-so agressive player. For example the time between pulls are not a pause to drink for me. What I do is the second the last mob dies I 'chaincast" my drink, and immediately move with the rest to the next pack. I wont be full mana yet but I dont need to. Yesterday I burned a lot of drinks (30? 40? I dont know) of which some I only gained 1000 mana.

Next to that you will usually see me walking next to the tank or just behind him. No matter if I am on my healer or DPS. That way if we get to the next pack and there is a 5 second break before the pull I allready have another 5 seconds drink, and I never have to play catch-up. Obviously this only affects performance on trash, however its also a mindset you create, to always be on the ball. Obviously I cannot judge well how you fit into this, but allways lagging behind is a big loss in damage.

So basically, dont allways try to drink to full, just use every break you get. Even if its to go from 15k/16k mana to 16k/16k mana, take that drink if you have the 2 seconds.
The same for DPS positioning. Try to get to the right spot asap, this is priority. When you get there see if you need to wait for the tank, need to drink quickly, or maybe take a dance. Positioning first other stuff later. This way you lose the least DPS time.

Just general comments but I hope it helps.

The difference in Hit may

The difference in Hit may have something to do with the "elemental precision" fix. There used to be a bug that gave you 6% hit on a FFB. 3 % for frost and 3 % for fire.

Blizz was gonna fix this. Not sure if they already did tho.

But i might explain the difference.

That bug is indeed fixed

That bug is indeed fixed AFAIK.

The good thing is realising there is still potential dps to gain.

If I look at your gear, I

If I look at your gear, I see you're a bit below the hitcap. You will need the following numbers to get capped :

11% hit to cap = 289 (EP + misery/improved faerie fire)
10% hit to cap = 263 (above, but with a draenei in the raid)

Patchwerk seems weird though, since I miss alot on him aswell (more than I'm supposed to). The misses are probably due to some bad luck too. In the analysis above you compare FFB and Scorch, but it's probably better to look at FFB and LB. Living Bomb is a much bigger source of damage than scorch.

About the keybinds. I use 2,3,4 for my main rotations (2 = SC, 3 = FB, 4 = Pyro). Living Bomb is under my 'Z'-key. I'm not sure if you use any add-ons to show you when what is proccing, but I use TellMeWhen to show me when Hotstreak becomes active.

The WWS looks pretty good though. You're only 1% behind Wit and Shrubs and considering you still have some nice juicy gearupgrades to go, this is nothing to worry about :)

Thanks all for your comments and advice.

Bas, in order to be able to hit my keys harder, i now use a different keyboard :-)

Alex, you are right, im still not hit-capped. So far i gave priority to +spellpower when gemming. But recently i notice more misses in my logs (maybe due to the bug fix?).

Alex, thanks for your cheering up...:-) Could you put up a link to your armory? So i can check out your build and gear.

btw, today i respecced to firebolt (18/53/0). Since Zafa is now arcane specced I wanted to keep Improved Scorch for the raid.

For the 18/53/0 build you will need another 3% hit (since you're losing Elemental Precision). I'm gearing myself to get 14% hitrating, because I assume we'll always have either a boomkin or a spriest in our 25s, but on the armory you'll see me in damagegear (I have a trinket/back with +hit and could even eat some hitfood to get to the point I want to be for raids :)).

This means you'll be aiming for :
14% 368 (no EP + misery/improved faerie fire)
13% 342 (above with draenei)

This is a serious amount of +hit and probably the biggest challenge for the fire build at the moment. Apart from that, you probably won't require much getting used to. The rotations are the same as for the FFBolt build, so that's easy :)

Good luck with the firebuild and don't get too dishearthened when it all doesn't go as planned immediately (remember, +hit makes the difference :)).
